We Advocate For Your Business

Advocating for policies and solutions that support growth, innovation, and sustainability creates a welcoming environment for businesses. This not only fuels local economic growth but fosters a vibrant business ecosystem. When businesses flourish, so do our communities.

Advocacy & Policy

Advocacy is a key part of what we do here at the Central York Chamber. As the voice of business in Newmarket and East Gwillimbury, our role involves identifying, researching and monitoring important issues affecting business growth and operations, as well as developing and supporting solutions that foster a positive business climate.

We work at all levels of government: directly with both the Town of Newmarket and the Regional Municipality of York and by coordinating efforts with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce at the provincial and federal levels. We are also part of the Chamber network which represents 200,000 businesses and is the largest and most influential business association in Canada.

What That Looks Like

The CY Chamber takes an active role in drafting policy, rather than simply criticizing it. In consultation with members, including our Advocacy Committee and Board of Directors, we develop positions and formulate campaigns around issues that have an impact on business and the local economy.

We regularly meet and dialogue with Municipal, Provincial and Federal elected officials.

We have a history of advocating for business and passing resolutions to support them. This includes the CEBA extension, the Bradford By-pass construction, and fast tracking the qualifications of foreign-trained professionals such as doctors, engineers, etc.

We will also help businesses navigate government in the most efficient way possible to achieve results.
